Statement from Darryl Erasmus, Chief Quality Assurance Officer at the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa on the fires in Knysna

The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa extends its condolences to the families and all the individuals who have lost loved ones, homes and other items in the on-going Knysna fires.

Our heartfelt commiserations are also with the business owners and employees of the 24 holiday accommodation properties destroyed and affected by the fires consuming the region.

The properties in the area – many of which have retained their historical architecture - have made a significant contribution in positioning the region as a welcoming, homely and safe, holiday destination and in so doing, have made a significant contribution to the profile and quality offering of our destination.

Together with our other stakeholders, we commit and look forward to working with all affected establishments in rebuilding their quality products and offerings.
